Other <br />(3) continued... <br />location for them; hence the city is bringing <br />those buildings into the proposal to the state. <br />We've also included the hotel portion of <br />Eddy Street Commons in the application <br />because virtually all of the first class <br />technology parks in the country include <br />quality rooms for conferences, very integral <br />to the technology park activities. The <br />governor and IEDC are aware of this part of <br />our application and understand our <br />reasoning. There will likely be further <br />discussion with the state on this issue. The <br />submittal of the application will give the state <br />opportunity to review and comment on the <br />various parts of it. <br />Mr. Brenner, Executive Director of the <br />Innovation Park at Notre Dame, addressed <br />the issue of why now is the time to submit <br />the application for the Certified Technology <br />Park. As a strong research university that <br />aspires to do even more research, the new <br />word in the industry is "translation." What <br />are you doing to prove that the public dollars <br />going to your research are benefiting <br />someone? The University of Notre Dame <br />feels that now is the time to take steps to <br />prove the value of its research. <br />Ms. Jones asked Mr. McMahon what the <br />state and the local involvement is in a <br />Certified Technology Park Mr. McMahon <br />responded that the State of Indiana decided <br />several years ago that they wanted to <br />promote economic development that is <br />university based in order to create new waves <br />6 <br />
