6. NEW BUSINESS (Coat %
north vacated alley now occupied by Office Engineers,
Project Indiana R -66. The joint venture advises that
any redesign at this date should only be considered if
it is reasonably certain that Associates plan to pro-
ceed with their super block concept.
Mr. L. Kent Wilcox advised this is for one -half block con-
tinuation of the River Bend Plaza and presented pre-
liminary drawings showing the original plan for that one -
half block. Mrs. Janet S. Allen had presented an overlay
based on the focal point of the stage, which Mr. Edward
F. Soltesz discussed. The stage would be hydraulically
operated - -30 x 10 dual stage--in two sections (30 x 30
locked together as one item unit.) The schematic working
drawing and the materials necessary for the hydraulic
system would be approximately $7,000 for the hydraulic
unit. The stage itself - -30 x 60 - -at a price of $10,000--
which would exclude the excavation changes necessary, which
would not be that great. The drawing states 30 x 40, then
necessary, was enlarged to set up full orchestra. The
price for the materials -- separate system - -costs $17,000
as of now. The question on the stage is the utilities lay-
ing on the street. In the planning of the Plaza, it is quite
expensive because of the existing things in the street. We
need to get the layout of the exact location of the stage
for the utilities above and below the streets prior to con-
struction. This will hold a 30 -ton capacity.
Commissioner Wiggins asked if any consideration had been
made for the provision for the lighting? Mr. Soltesz
advised that they had and also included guard rails re-
quired by law and facilities for plugging in an audio
system. Not figured in is the amplifying system. The
storage is underneath the stage. Everything for the stage
is there and at low cost.
Mr. Karl King, Chairman, River Bend Plaza Advisory Com-
mittee, advised that Mr. Richard Van Mele is an Advisory
member and he feels this is a very good project. If, for
some reason, they would not want the remainder of that
half block, Mr. King said they cannot answer, but if the
plan would be instituted, they would be very favorable to
this idea. If it would not relate to that block it would
be favorable, as it could be correlated. Other items are
eliminated that would be an offset in the Plaza (major
items). which are probably more expensive than what is
being discussed. Mr. Louis Wilcox said there will be
major deletions from the plan when we have the major
construction. One fountain is eliminated.
This discussion is only for the consideration to authorize
the execution of alternative plan for cost of $7,000 as
an addendum to the joint venture contract. This is for
the redesign work, per Mr. L. Kent Wilcox.
