RESS REPORTS (Cont'd) <br />2) River Bend Plaza Schedule <br />Mr. Louis N. Wilcox, Director of the River Bend Plaza <br />Office, advised he has two items completed from our <br />last meeting - -flags are currently up and flying again <br />on Blocks 4 and 5, which were stolen, and we have now <br />come up with reasonable vandalism -proof of the flags. <br />The second item - -the second set of 100 amperage service <br />is now ready for use - -one to be used today. <br />The Plaza remains quite active - -all things considered- - <br />weather and all, and the one that was the most success- <br />ful is the Blood Pressure Tests - -free to the public. We <br />have now made arrangements with the St. Joseph Bank to <br />provide an area for this program, which will be available <br />from 11:00 a.m, to 5:00 p.m., on Tuesday's. Mr. Wilcox <br />advised that 125 people have made use of the free tests <br />and that this has been an extremely successful program. <br />The response shows that adult citizens are interested <br />and appear to participate in the River Bend Plaza <br />programs. <br />For Halloween, Mr. Wilcox said he hopes to have a major <br />announcement.for October 31st, with all kinds of possi- <br />bilities, with prizes, gimmics, and hope to have a sub- <br />stantial number of people on the River Bend Plaza. <br />RIVER BEND <br />PLAZA SCHEDULE <br />The next event they will be preparing for will be working <br />with the Christmas decorations, that the Commissioners <br />made possible to purchase. This should be ready by Satur- <br />day, November 16, and we may expect considerable people <br />with activities up to and including on Christmas. <br />Commissioner Wade said that we are doing a much better <br />job in keeping the Plaza clean; that it is a lot cleaner <br />and the security has improved. Mr. Wilcox said the se- <br />curity is excellent. <br />3) River Bend Plaza =- Commun*t Program <br />Mr. John R. Kagel, Executive Director, Downtown South <br />Bend Council, said that we need to think of the River <br />Bend Plaza as belonging to the entire community. Pre- <br />viously, the South Bend Council had planted trees in <br />tumblers in the downtown area, and moving ahead have <br />done other things in the downtown area. <br />He stated the River Bend Plaza is a community thing- - <br />a stage in life in which the total community should <br />become involved. The total community should become <br />involved in these things -- Christmas activity, religious <br />actitities, and all the other fields.
