4. REPORT OF TRUSTEES MEETING OF THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 1974 (Cont'd
made it my business to check how much money was involved in
;he various projects that we have undertaken and the figure
mounts to $48 Million - -to say nothing of what has generated
n private investments downtown- -and to say nothing about the
on -cash grants which are not in that figure. As you know, the
on -cash grants are equal to 1/3 of the total we invested.
ow do you get recognized on what was really involved? One is
hat I kind of pride myself in this in that we had about 60 some
mployees - -I believe - -and when you consider that number of people
lus the vast amount of money involved, our record is pretty
lean, and I am about as proud of that as I am of anything else- -
o scandal, fraud or degradation of any kind - -at least of what is
bvious. That consideration is a worry to the Board of Commissioners
oo. Every one of them did a tremendous job!
s your President, I am very grateful to having had the opportunity
o serve you and it has been a real pleasure. It was fun! My time
as not been without some difficulties. I remember about a year
r two ago, we were doing nothing but demolishing buildings and
eople did sympathize. Some said, "What in the world are you going
o do with all that land and have a hole ?" I was concerned that
aybe they were right, and all of a sudden things came to take shape
nd began to start improvement downtown.
e should all be pleased of the job we did and what the effect it
as on the taxes - -all the dollars and cents -- increase in assessment
nd values and of the real estate in downtown improvements. It far
xceeds the full values of those buildings we demolished and it is
nl y the beginning. When Associates finally breaks ground - -that is a
rivate investment- -and it will further help the assessed valuation
or the community.
told a lot of people I find it difficult to find a reason to quit,
t I have served since '58 and it is in good hands. If it weren't
good hands, I wouldn't even consider.it. I want to thank every -
e for their help, and I thanked the Executive Director yesterday
r the statements.
have had some very good ones and some bad -ones. When it comes
wn to the nitty gritty, we have had good Executive Directors who
ve been very, very helpful, and that includes Chuck, and I am
azed at Chuck, and I don't know where he gets his energy, as did
. Lloyd S. Taylor before him.
But the vast amount of money we have had go through this office
j st amazes me! Bob -- before you of here I was saying- -the total
wa have spent outright was about ?48 Million - -to say nothing of
w at has been done in private investments and non -cash credits,
aid I am pleased too, and will attend the next meeting, and, as I
s id prior, it has been fun'
- 5 -
