Nine flags have been
Per. Wilcox also informed the Commission wall painting
e Plaza building is being done this week by St. Mary's College
nts and Notre Dame and some of our own maintenance people are
rating on the painting of it. Three colors of the River Bend
logo are being used -- "River Bend Renaissance." After
days of visual evidence, two others have come to see what
e done for their walls.
Mr. Wilcox passed out next week's schedule -- maintaining
a reasonable good series of activities in the Plaza. There is no
lessening of interest in people volunteering to do things. Satur-
day, there will be a group called, Black Nurses Associates taking
blood pressures. Also sidewalk day - -the merchants are cooperating.
In the budget presentation for the city, we have
allocated for uniforms. If we go to a contractor for maintenance,
they must furnish uniforms for people working on the Plaza. The
ones working now have T- shirts with Plaza and badges identifying
them
A discussion on the bike situation; Mr. Wiggins said to
enforce it - -make it stick. The word gets around!
On the loitering situation, Mr. Wilcox said there is
no law--if the people don't bother or harrass - -he feels the River
Bend Plaza is a place for the people, and as long as they are enjoying
the Flaza, he is not in favor of having them removed. President
Helm en said there are not enough benches, and Mr. Wiggins asked if
therE is a possibility of providing more seating arrangements. Mr.
Akin advised park benches with wooden frames on the bottom would
scratch the bricks, the metal frames without the wood would not. Mr.
Wilcox said that was one of the special discussions and under some
of the original plans of the Plaza. Whatever is suggested by the
Commission that would not deface is recommended. Mr. Zakrocki said
he had made the recommendation for the Grand Opening and immediately
aftey that the old park benches out on the Terrazzo was not recommended.
Mr. ennon said those have been pulled out. Mr.. Wilcox advised the
public moves the benches too, but there is no excuse that we can't move
them back.
Mr. Wilcox informed of a small park in Manhatten, New
York, where they use individual chairs and they have not lost a single
chair by theft. Also European Plazas have individual chairs and we
certainly want to review that kind of situation in our own Plaza. If
the people want to use the Plaza, they should be allowed.
- 12 -
