BUSINESS (Cont'd <br />The f ll Commission had agreed and reiterated to Mrs. <br />Green ut the fact that we are going to have a separate <br />civic and promotional events during June 21, 22 and 23. <br />The Cc mmission reminded Mrs. Greenhut that this was fully <br />discu sed six months ago. <br />Mr. -Wiggins made the motion we set June 21st as a firm <br />date ior the Grand Opening of the Mall. This will be a <br />three-day extravaganza- -June 21, 22 and 23, 1974. Said <br />motio was seconded by Mr. Chenney and unanimously carried. <br />c Report from Sculpture Judges, R -66: Relative to <br />suggestions made by President Helmen at the last Commission <br />meeti g on this subject, a telephone poll was made of the <br />judges, as well as a request for rewritten documentation. <br />The j dges reiterated their original decision that they <br />were rost impressed by "The Continuous You" over all the <br />other submitted. One stated the polished black granite <br />base ill improve the design practicality of the piece; <br />anoth r repeated that proportionate changes do not deter <br />from he design impact;.and the third reacted similarly, <br />that this piece will be very impressive to walk under. <br />We received the verification from one of the judges in <br />the mail, and other two will be forthcoming. <br />Meetivig was also held with our consultants, representative <br />of No th American Sign regarding the discussions with the <br />sculp ors and are working out the foundation details for <br />all t ree pieces, methods of anchoring, methods of electrical <br />conve fence for the Mooney piece, and site orientation. <br />Mr. Lennon requested tentative approval on the location of <br />the sculptures, based on studies that will be forthcoming <br />from our Mall consultant -- permission is for our staff to <br />work with the consultant to give final authorization for <br />the placement of the sculptures. <br />Motioi was made by Mr. Wiggins, seconded by Mr. Chenney <br />and u animously carried, to give the Executive Director <br />the a thority to approve placement locations subject to <br />the a proval of the Park Department and Sculptural Committee. <br />6.
