7. PROMESS REPORTS (Cont'd <br />2) Downtown Rehabilitations R -66: Mr. Edwin R. Bauer,. DOWNTOWN REHABILI- <br />Assistant Director, Planning Division, submitted a TATION, R -66 <br />written report for construction activity by the private <br />sector in the Central Business District: <br />A. R.E.T.S. Technical College, 501 S. Michigan Street <br />at Monroe has doubled their classroom capacity by <br />annexing the adjoining space and providing a <br />continuous store front canopy extension to their <br />renovated school building. <br />B. Preliminary plans are in process for remodeling <br />three -story Inwoods Department Store facade. Work <br />will include new show windows and a new entrance <br />foyer, a new overhang awning system, and refacing <br />the east side of the annex building. Work at the <br />service -drive parking lot side to include a new <br />entry vestibule and customer ramp. <br />C. Christman Construction Company has completed ex- <br />terior masonry work and the finish roofing at <br />Office Engineers West Annex Building preparatory <br />to completing the store front glazing. <br />D. Foundation work and ground level floor slab has <br />been poured at the I.B.M. Building, 215 South St. <br />Joseph Street. Completion date for the six -story <br />structure tentatively set for mid - November, 1974, <br />and will contain 56,000 square feet of office <br />space. <br />E. A mid- September, 1974 completion date is antici- <br />pated for the five -story Plaza Place building. <br />Foundation formwork to support the steel frame <br />building is complete and this structure will con- <br />tain 25,000 square feet of office space. <br />F. The service court side entry is now completed at the <br />J.M.S. Annex Building. The elevator lobby and the <br />interior stairwell will be complete with addition <br />of the stair railing. The service corridor work <br />has been completed with the addition of a new <br />kitchen facility for the Soup -R- Sandwish Restaurant, <br />and a new sign and entry foyer for the Red -Door Club. <br />A back lighted stainless steel sign has also been in- <br />stalled at Rasmussen's store. <br />G. Roof deck and masonry work completed at one -story Peak <br />Building under construction at 121 S. Lafayette Street. <br />H. The temporary bus shelter at the Main Street terminal <br />is now in operation and the traffic flow of buses at <br />the Jefferson -Main Street location has greatly alle- <br />viated the problem of passengers lining up in front <br />of Washington Street businesses. <br />- 15 - <br />
