Miller <br />Rasmussen <br />Memorial <br />Fund Planned <br />A memorial to William R. <br />Rasmussen, prominent South <br />Bend business and civic leader <br />who died Wednesday, will be <br />dedicated in the form of a fund <br />campaign to be conducted in <br />the professional and business <br />community by the South Bend - <br />Mishawaka Area Chamber of ' <br />Commerce. <br />Jack E. Ellis, chamber pres- <br />ident, said that the memorial <br />would be "in recognition of <br />Bill's untiring efforts and valu- <br />able contributions to the devel- <br />opment of the city's central <br />core at-ea." <br />He added, "Bill Rasmussen <br />was a key element in the con- <br />cept of downtown renewal and <br />a dedicated servant to total . <br />community development." <br />The chamber would like to <br />have the South Bend Redevel - <br />_ - -- <br />opment Commission consider <br />e coast— ruction of a fitting <br />scu ptura or other art item in <br />the own ow`n ma , w ien It is <br />completed, to call attention to <br />- Ka- smussen's efforts, accord - <br />ing i� o 'Ills <br />lie said that total or partial <br />cost of such a memorial would <br />be defrayed with voluntary <br />subscriptions by the commer- <br />cial, industrial and profession- <br />al community of South Bend. <br />He suggested that contribu- <br />tions be directed to the Cham- <br />ber of Commerce in the name <br />of the William R. Rasmussen <br />nemorial, 320 W. Jefferson <br />Blvd. <br />The chamber's endeavor in <br />no way is intended to conflict <br />with family suggestions that <br />memorial contributions be <br />made to Camp Eberhart, in <br />care of the First National <br />Bank of Mishawaka, but is a <br />special effort of the business <br />community, stressed Ellis. <br />Rasmussen, president of <br />Rasmussen's Store for Men. <br />died unexpectedly Wednesday <br />night in his hotne, 1108 lMcKin- <br />ley llwv., \lishawaka.
