SOUH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
SPE IAL MEETING: JULY 16, 1973
3.
NEW BUSINESS (Cont'd)
Paqe 5.
b. Notice of Public Hearing of the Central Downtown Urban Renewal
Project, Indiana R -66
Mr. Lennon advised as a result of the above action, in our Com-
mission meeting of August 3, 1973, at 10:30 A.M., in the City -
Council Chambers, County -City Building, we will have a Public
Hearing for any remonstrance against this particular Resolution.
This will be in line with the time schedules which will allow
us to go before the Area Plan Commi>sion tomorrow evening, City
Council next Monday evening, the Public Hearing on August 3, and
if approved by all bodies, it will be presented to the Michiana
Council of Governments in their August 8 meeting.
Motion was made by Mr. Wiggins, seconded by Rev. Williams and
unanimously carried, to place the Notice of Public Hearing of
the Central Downtown Urban Renewal Project, Indiana R -66, in
The South Bend Tribune, Tri- County News, and The Reformer,
post the notices as required, and inform all the parties of the
Public Hearing.
c. Additional water service line installations on Michigan Street,
Phase III, Project Indiana R -66
Discussion was held on the feasibility of putting in service
lines for empty lots. This will further be developed by staff.
The Bureau of Water is authorized to replace all water service
lines presently in use with new services on lines that are very
old and may break in the next decade. The estimated cost of
the work is $22,000 (55 services at $400 each). The Bureau of
Water will subcontract most of this work to plumbers and bill
the Department of Redevelopment through existing Force Account,
Phase III, R -66. The initial cost estimates for Phase III did
not include the work, so adjustments need to be made. The sub-
contracted plumber will coordinate with the General Contractor
since there is some overlap involved in water service relocations.
Mr. Lennon advised we do not want to go back and dig up the
Pedestrian Way. This should have been programmed in originally.
In our Pre - Construction meeting with the utilities, this discus-
sion came up and was brought to our attention.
The Commission was unanimous to replace any existing lines which
need to be replaced and motion was made by Rev. Williams, se-
conded by Mr. Wade and unanimously carried, to approve the esti-
mated cost of work at $22,000 which would include 55 services
@ $400 each, to be paid out of the Phase III, Water Force Account.
