OTHER (Cont'd)
Mr. Wiggins said this had a distinct advantage - -the
peo le had something to refer to - -in print and on
the air.
b. Pedestrian Way: Mrs. Janet S. Allen said in PEDESTRIAN WAY,
rea ing t e minutes of the last Commission meeting, she R -66
wondered where it said: Involving demolition, clearing,
grading, a variety of pavings, drainage, walls, water lines,
electrical installation, pools, fountains, canopies, sculpture,
street furniture and other work incidental thereto, who is go-
ing to come up with a decision of sculpturing and who is going
to determine the fountains. Would really like to have some-
one who can do a fountain. She advised we have sufficient
talent in South Bend and surrounding areas to come up with
ins ead of asking someone out of town.
Mr. Lennon went into detail in answering the above questions.
Environmental Planning and Design of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
who is our architectural consultant for the Pedestrian Mall
has submitted pool designs to our Commission. Our Commission
approves the type of sculpturing.
H ftaccepts the final design of the Mall and then comes back
to he Commission.
As Ito Mrs. Allen's question on where the people can see the
design of the Mall, Mr;' Lennon answered:
1) Environmental Planning and Design, Pittsburgh, Pa.
2) Clyde E. Williams & Associates, South Bend,lInd.
3) Department of Redevelopment, City of South Bend.
and a copy with the Park Department will show the landscape
design.
Que tion had been brought before the Commission on whether
ram s, at intersections, in the Pedestrian Mall, had been in-
clu ed in our design for the handicapped people? Mr. Lennon
advised that we are under the new ordinance that was passed
by the City Council, and this is in the construction plan and
the bid has depressed curbs.
M
NEXT MEETING
As stated earlier in the minutes, under 6b, New Business, NEXT MEETING:
a S ecial Redevelopment Commission Meeting will be held in the
Cit - Council Chambers, at 7:30 P.M., April 30, 1973, for the SPECIAL:
Indiana A -10 Public Hearing.
