Lennon, Jr., gave information to the Press prese t and audience: "This is an One Million Dollar Grant. We requested One and a Half Million. $500,000 is for the Model Cities area and $500,000 for the Southeast. "The Model Neighborhood is bounded on the North by Linden, West by Olive, South by Orange, and East by Sadie. There are 31 families living in this area. The first action year for the Model Neighborhood is scheduled for total clearance. "The Southeast area boundaries are: West is the first alley east of Michigan; East is the first alley west of Carroll; North is the first alley north of Elder; and South is the first alley south of Paris Street. There are approximately 29 families in this area. "We will be working with Garrett Mullins and Ed Lucz - kowski - -both residents in the particular areas we are talking about, representing the residents. They should receive congratulations on a job well done. I have worked with them and will continue to work with them in that area. "Now the City and Redevelopment Commission will have an opportunity to develop the merchants' plan in the Southeast side. We have never had the opportunity to go into the Southeast side before. The hair asked Mr. Garrett Mullins, President of the South- east Side Project Area Committee, to express a few words on beha f of this Project: Mr. Mullins -- "I am very pleased - -very happy - -and, as the Mayor said, we would have liked to have more, but we hope to ac- complish a lot with this money." Also, Mr. Edwin Luczkowski, Co- Chairman of the Model Neighbor- hood Planning Agency (Housing Committee).of the Project Area Committee: "This has been a long time coming and I am sure our fears of nothing happening can now be forgotten. 31 families in Model Cities will be pleased with this news. This is the best news in three years."
