4. PRESS RELEASES (Cont'd <br />We are hopeful we can solve the problems in the South - <br />east neighborhood." <br />Mr. C�arles F. Lennon, Jr., gave information to the Press <br />prese t and audience: <br />"This is an One Million Dollar Grant. We requested <br />One and a Half Million. $500,000 is for the Model <br />Cities area and $500,000 for the Southeast. <br />"The Model Neighborhood is bounded on the North by <br />Linden, West by Olive, South by Orange, and East by <br />Sadie. There are 31 families living in this area. <br />The first action year for the Model Neighborhood is <br />scheduled for total clearance. <br />"The Southeast area boundaries are: West is the first <br />alley east of Michigan; East is the first alley west <br />of Carroll; North is the first alley north of Elder; <br />and South is the first alley south of Paris Street. <br />There are approximately 29 families in this area. <br />"We will be working with Garrett Mullins and Ed Lucz - <br />kowski - -both residents in the particular areas we <br />are talking about, representing the residents. They <br />should receive congratulations on a job well done. <br />I have worked with them and will continue to work <br />with them in that area. <br />"Now the City and Redevelopment Commission will have <br />an opportunity to develop the merchants' plan in the <br />Southeast side. We have never had the opportunity to <br />go into the Southeast side before. <br />The hair asked Mr. Garrett Mullins, President of the South- <br />east Side Project Area Committee, to express a few words on <br />beha f of this Project: Mr. Mullins -- <br />"I am very pleased - -very happy - -and, as the Mayor said, <br />we would have liked to have more, but we hope to ac- <br />complish a lot with this money." <br />Also, Mr. Edwin Luczkowski, Co- Chairman of the Model Neighbor- <br />hood Planning Agency (Housing Committee).of the Project Area <br />Committee: <br />"This has been a long time coming and I am sure our fears <br />of nothing happening can now be forgotten. 31 families <br />in Model Cities will be pleased with this news. This is <br />the best news in three years." <br />
