Public Hearing on Merry Avenue Urban Renewal Project: MERRY AVENUE URBAN <br />The E ecutive Director presented and read Proofs of Publica- RENEWAL PROJECT <br />tion f the Notice of Public Hearing on a declaratory resolu- PUBLIC HEARING <br />tion n regard to the Merry Avenue Urban Renewal Project. <br />The a vertisement appeared in The South Bend Tribune and in <br />the T i- County News on July 28 and August 4, 1972. <br />The P esident of the Commission announced that all taxpayers <br />and p rsons interested would be heard in regard to Resolution <br />No. 4 7, which would confirm declaratory Resolution No. 406 <br />decla ing among other things, that the described area is <br />bligh ed and constitutes a menace to the social and economic <br />interests of the City and its inhabitants, and that it will be <br />of public utility and benefit to acquire such area and redevelop <br />same. <br />Ir. Taylor advised several meetings have been held <br />ith the community residents and this particular <br />roject is being carried out under the Model Cities <br />verall plan. The neighborhood is quite familiar <br />ith the program. <br />Mrs. ouvenia Cain spoke on behalf of the Project, as Co- <br />Chair an of the Housing Committee of the Model Cities Program, <br />in co junction with the Physical Committee and Economics Com- <br />mitte . This is one of their projects. In developing a plan <br />for M del Cities they saw a need to demolish some of the worst <br />condi ions and to upgrade the area, including creating jobs. <br />- 4 - <br />
