2. SWEARING -IN OF COMMISSIONERS BY CITY CLERK,.MRS. IRENE GAMMON <br />M s. Irene Gammon, new 'City Clerk taking office the lst of January, <br />succe ding incumbent City Clerk Kathryn L. Blough, administered the <br />oath f office to the following Commissioners: Messrs. Fred J. Helmen, <br />John Chenney, Donald A. Wiggins and Rev. Willie V. Williams. <br />M . Bob L Wade was sworn in as ;a Commissioner the 21st day of <br />Decem er, 1971, by City Clerk, Kathryn L. Blough, as there was a <br />possi ility he would be out of town for this meeting. <br />3. ELECTION OF OFFICERS <br />Mr. Bruce C. Hammerschmidt, Commission Legal Counsel, consented to <br />the appointment of temporary chairman for the election of officers. <br />The nominations were open: <br />Motion was made by Rev. Williams to retain the Commissioners in <br />their respective offices for the year 1972, seconded by Mr. Chenney.. <br />Said motion was unanimously carried by popular consent. These are: <br />President Mr. Fred J. Helmen <br />Vice President: Mr. John E. Chenney <br />Secretary Rev. Willie V. Williams <br />Asst. Secretary: Mr. B. L. Wade <br />Member: Mr. Donald A. Wiggins <br />Mt. Helmen accepted the'office of President, and said when he <br />succe ded Mr. Dean J. Wilhelm (who resigned June 1, 1971) that he <br />would complete Mr. Wilhelm's unexpired term and has done so. "Mr. <br />Taylor is our new Executive Director and I look forward to a very, <br />very ood year for urban redevelcpment-- particularly progress. I <br />am gr teful for my brother Commissioners having that confidence in <br />me, a d I assure you ,I will do everything that I can to make us see <br />a gooc year for urban redevelopment in South Bend for 1972. <br />4 A P.OINTMENT OF LEGAL COUNSEL: <br />T e next order of.business -was the appointment of Legal Counsel. <br />M yor Jerry J. Miller has recommended the Commission consider <br />Mr: C arles W. Roemer to succeed Mr. Hammerschmidt as Legal Counsel <br />for t e Redevelopment Commission. President Helmen said the'Com- <br />missi n has heretofore taken the recommendations of the Mayor. <br />T e motion was made by Mr. Chenney to appoint Mr. Charles W. <br />Roeme Legal Counsel for the Redevelopment Commission, seconded by <br />Mr. W de. Motion unanimously carried. <br />Legal Counsel Fee: <br />The compensation for Legal Counsel is to be a retaining fee of, <br />$200.00 per month,`plus the minimum bar rate of the St. Joseph Bar <br />Association for additional services requested. <br />-2- - <br />
