3. <br />and <br />Pres <br />spec <br />Mr. <br />1, 1 <br />Ashe <br />urba <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />a. Review applications for position of Director <br />he naming of a Director: As per Special Notice, <br />dent Helmen said this meeting was called for the <br />fic purpose of appointing a new Director to succeed <br />shenfelter, whose resignation is effective January <br />72. He said the Commission is grateful for Mr. <br />felter's tenure and the many accomplishments in <br />renewal. <br />The Chair said there were several applications, and in <br />the selection of a successor to Mr. Ashenfelter, the <br />Commission wanted to pick the man most qualified. The <br />Director selected fits this criteria, having served the <br />City well and in working with the Redevelopment Commis- <br />sion The Commission felt that Mr. Lloyd S. Taylor is <br />the lost knowledgeable man for this position. <br />Mr. Wiggins moved that Mr. Lloyd S. Taylor be named to <br />the position of Executive Director of the Department of <br />Redevelopment, effective January 1, 1972. Said motion <br />was teconded by Mr. Chenney and supported by Mr. Helmen- - <br />carried unanimously. <br />The hair suggested fir. Taylor be invited to the meeting <br />in s ssion and his appointment be announced. <br />As Mr. Taylor entered the meeting, President Helmen ad- <br />vised him that the Commissioners had appointed him as <br />the Executive Director cf the Department of Redevelop- <br />ment effective January 1, 1972. His eight -year back- <br />ground with the City and having been closely allied with <br />urba renewal were mentioned as being prime reasons for <br />his election. "We want to get the job done and we <br />figu e you are the one to do it." <br />Mr. Taylor was congratulated by the Commissioners and <br />Commission Legal Counsel, Mr. Bruce C. Hammerschmidt. <br />Mr. laylor accepted the appointment and thanked the <br />Commission for their confidence. "I think it is a <br />real challenge and will afford the opportunity to <br />carr out a program that is already pretty well under <br />way.' <br />b. Resolution No. 383 -- Executive Director <br />Resi nation: The Chair had requested Mr. Wiggins, <br />in C C mmission meeting of December 17, 1971, to prepare <br />a resolution, which is to be spread on the minutes, to <br />become a matter of record. <br />Mr. b <br />Comm- <br />and i <br />iggins read and presented the Resolution to the <br />ssion. The Commission accepted the Resolution <br />equested a motion for the record. <br />-3- <br />MR. LLOYD S.
