NEW BUSINESS (Cont'd <br />The Sigi Committee recommended the Commission waive the <br />objecti ns because of the unique location and permit <br />the McC ffery Company to erect the sign as requested. <br />On moti n by Mr. Wiggins, seconded by Mr. Chenney, the <br />recommendation of the Sign Committee was accepted that <br />the McC ffery Company be permitted to erect the above <br />sign. lotion unanimously carried. <br />c. U.S. Post Office Design and Site Plans: The <br />Urban Design Review Committee met in this office on <br />November 11, 1971, along with Mr. William C. Moe, of <br />Chas. W. Cole & Son, Inc., to review the design and site <br />plans f r the development of the U.S. Post Office. <br />The Com ittee recommended the Commission accept the plans <br />and site improvement drawings of the Post Office Building. <br />The cost of construction is estimated at Five Million Dollars, <br />plus. It was suggested that the Corps of Engineers now con- <br />sidering the design should be encouraged to retain all land - <br />scaping as shown in the design and site plan, with particu- <br />lar"emp asis on that landscaping plan for both the east and <br />west en s. It was the Urban Design Review Committee's <br />opinion that the landscaping, as planned for the east end of <br />the dev lopment, would be vital in separating commercial and <br />residential uses, as the residential area would be immediate- <br />ly east <br />On moti n by Rev. Centralized Housing Bureau: Commission authoriza- <br />tion wa requested to contribute toward the salaries of <br />part-tine employees to work on the housing data gathering <br />compone t for the next one -year period, in an amount not <br />to exce d $8,000.00, to begin functioning as a Centralized <br />Housing Bureau, a non - profit Housing Corporation, to create <br />new housing resources through new construction and rehabili- <br />tion. Our HUD site representative, in Indianapolis, Miss <br />Fredi R lsky, is in approval of the financial participation. <br />The Commission felt our Department would not be the only <br />beneficiary of this documentation and that other public <br />agencies should contribute towards Central Relocation as <br />this is not a specific area, but city -wide. The Commission <br />agreed his should be on a 4:4 basis. <br />On motion by Mr. Wiggins, seconded by Rev. Williams, author- <br />ization was granted the Department of Redevelopment provide <br />$4,000.00 towards the Centralized Housin Bureau, contingent <br />upon other public agencies 'contributing ?4,000.00.
