REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 13, 2012 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />BILL NO. 36-12 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE <br />COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING CHAPTER 6, <br />ARTICLE 1, SECTION 6-4.1 (4) OF THE SOUTH <br />BEND MUNICIPAL CODE TO ADJUST FIRE <br />DEPARTMENT COMMERCIAL PLAN REVIEW <br />FEES <br /> <br />Councilmember Dr. David Varner, Chairperson, Public Works and Property Vacation <br />Committee, reported that this committee met on this bill this afternoon and voted to send <br />it to the full Council with a favorable recommendation. <br /> <br />Fire Chief Stephen Cox, 1222 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana, made the <br />presentation for this bill. <br /> <br />Chief Cox advised that the South Bend Municipal Code Chapter6, Article 1, Section 6- <br />4.1(4) presently requires a flat fee of $253.00 for the Fire Department Commercial Plan <br />Review of any addition remodeling project. In the course of charging this fee, it has <br />become apparent that a sliding scale fee based on the cost of a remodeling construction <br />project less than $58,001.00 is fairer and more equitable to property owners. <br /> <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br /> <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this bill, Councilmember Dieter made a motion for favorable <br />recommendation to full Council concerning this bill as substituted.. Councilmember <br />Henry Davis seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> <br /> <br />BILL NO. 26-12 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE <br />COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING ORDINANCE <br />NO. 10119-11 FIXING SALARIES AND WAGES <br />OF APPOINTED OFFICERS AND NON- <br />BARGAINING EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND AND TRANSFERRING FUNDS <br />FROM CERTAIN ACCOUNTS TO OTHER <br />ACCOUNTS <br /> <br />Councilmember White advised that there has been a request by the petitioner to strike this <br />bill from consideration. Therefore, Councilmember Dieter made a motion to strike this <br />bill.
