8. QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION (Cont'd
quickly as it is finalized, Mrs. Allen will be informed.
There are cost factors and many facets to consider. The
preliminary plans will be ready near the 1st of February,
and, we will see what the cost is. The.cost may change
our way of thinking.
Mrs. Allen advised that she has been asked by the Mayor
to work with Mr. Bob Kronewitter, architect, working
for the Water Works, on Columbia Court, in connection
with the alley to the South of the parking structure.
Mr. Wiggins advised the Street Department should be able
to do something temporarily.
President Wilhelm suggested Mr. Kronewitter get in touch
with Clyde E. Williams & Associates, Mr. Muggy, and through
his office set up a date telling him of the problem and
see what can be worked out. -We have a meeting scheduled
for the 21st of this month and this may be resolved at
that time.
Mrs.Allen also stated she met.with some of the paraplegics
who have a real problem. Some buildings, such as ours,
impede wheel chairs, also the 'phones.are too high,.the
lavatories are not equipped for them, the curbs in South
Bend create tremendous problems, as they are too high. In
the new garages, Mr. Lloyd Taylor, City Engineer, has re-
served some parking spaces for these people where three
stalls were made -into two. The Sherland Building will
arrange for a ramp. The problem is not only for those
confined to wheel chairs, but also-mothers with baby
carriages. She stated Minneapolis has had ordinance
regulating streets and curbs.
President Wilhelm advised this has been discussed with
the Mall esigners and will,be made accessible.to these
people.
9.
