7. PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont`d <br />stated the Post Office Department is designing the <br />interi r, covering the arrangement, space sizes <br />and me panics. It is very highly mechanized on the <br />inside The architects are designing a completely <br />new building and have no restrictions. <br />Mr. He men said the post office will not only serve <br />South 3end, but will be a regional post office. <br />8. QUESTION AND ANSWER�SESSFON <br />Mr. Jim Miller, South Bend Tribune Reporter, in- <br />quired as to how we are coming on temporary housing <br />6r some of the Downtown merchants? Mr. Ebel stated <br />we have asked the modular home industry and various <br />industries of portable buildings to submit what they <br />can do for us that we may purchase, or they lease <br />and remove later. We have received quite a number of <br />replies and are in the process of evaluating these. <br />Mr. Wiggins asked if it is possible to put in a shop- <br />ping alternate? Mr. Ebel advised it was only done <br />once in the country. It has to be flexible buildings. <br />These are temporary housing buildings which are attrac- <br />tive buildings that will fit into the area. HUD is <br />concerned about the permanency of temporary buildings. <br />HUD stated prior that the buildings must have wheels <br />in under, and wheels in under are not really suitable <br />for business purposes. Mr. Wiggins stated that we <br />would retain title and ownership so there would be <br />no pr lems. <br />Mrs. Kellogg asked if we are planning with the South- <br />east side residents? Rev. Williams said progress is <br />being made with the PAC group. They are meeting <br />periodically discussing problems in the area and what <br />they would like in the area. They definitely want <br />cleaner streets, homes brought up -to -date, etc. Mrs. <br />Kellogg asked if someone has been hired by Redevelop- <br />ment and Mr. Ebel advised there was, but as a con- <br />sultant, and the firm is: Harland Bartholomew and <br />Associates of Memphis, Tennessee. Rev. Williams said <br />a goo write -up will be available in the next two or <br />three onths. <br />9.
