It was soon moved to the northwest corner, the present site, and
enlarged to make room for a post office. Jacob's son, Francis D. Warner, bought it in 1874 and replaced it with the
existing, two-story building. The west half of the new buildinq was occupied by T. J. Garoutre ' s Dry Goods StnrP_
The east half held Warner' s Drug Store and was sold to Lory & Daisy Stinchcomb Graffort who later sold it to the
Kellogg Drug Co. from Knox, Indiana. The west half remained the Garoutte Dry Goods Store until 1920 when it was
purchased by David Hostetler. In 1941 this half was also sold to the Kelloa_a Drua CQ. Ten years later the PntirP
buildinq was sold to Glen & Winnie Watson who continued the drug stare and had nnP are_a_as a gift- shun afrar Mr
Watson ' s death, Mrs. Watson found the qift shop to be runninq better than the drug store so she rnnrPntratPd her
efforts on the gifts , especially the collectors ' plate section. Her interP5tin Dlatie collecting grew until her shop
became solely involved in the buvina and se_llina of collectors ' plates Today the Watson ' s Plate Shop is known world-
wide as the headquarters for plate collectors.
This two-story. Italianate building has been very well maintained and retains its arinal
character on the exterior as well as the interior. Its cast- iron hood moldinas are the only ones extant in the
commercial district.
IPttal DPsrrintinn - Inr 7n n. P. 'R Fr _ F siriP Haig rarlicla
20.
