II. E.LECTION OF OFFICERS <br />Mr. Bruce C. Hammerschmidt, Commission Legal Counsel, consented to <br />the a pointment of temporary chai man for the election of officers. The <br />nominations were open for the following offices: <br />F.RESIDENT:. <br />Mr. Fred J. Helmen nominated Mr. Dean J. Wilhelm for President. <br />Potion was :supported by Rev. Willie V. Williams, and a'unanimous <br />tallot was '';cast <for Mr. Dean J. Wilhelm, President of the South Bend <br />Redevelopment Commission. <br />Mr. Helmen recommended an appropriate riate resolution be passed <br />it once, on behalf of Mr. Donald A. Wiggins, expressing -the other <br />ommissioners' gratitude for an extraordinary service rendered <br />his Board. Mr. Helmen apprised the success of this Commission, <br />t this point, has largely been Attributed to Mr. Wiggins' efforts, <br />iAho served as President of this Commission for the past five (5) <br />3ears. This five-year period-has been a very- productive one. On <br />notion by Mr. Helmen, Commission Legal Counsel, Mr. Bruce C. Hammer- <br />schmidt, is to prepare a resolution citing Mr. Wiggins' accomplish- <br />nents, and':I that this resolution-be read and adopted at a later <br />meeting. - Motion was supported by Mr. Chenney and unanimously passed <br />ty <br />all Commissioners. <br />ICE PRESIDENT:., <br />Mr. Helmen nominated Mr. John E. Chenney for Vice President, <br />and a unanimous ballot was cast. <br />SECRETARY:: <br />Mr. John E. Chenney nominated -Rev. Will-ie V. Williams for Secre- <br />tary, and a unanimous ballot was cast. <br />ASSISTANT SECRETARY: <br />Mr. Donald A. Wiggins nominated Mr. Fred J. Helmen for Assis- <br />tant Secretary, supported by Mr. Chenney-,-and a unanimous ballot <br />as cast. <br />III. APPOINTMENT OF LEGAL COUNSEL AND STAFF <br />The next order of.business was: the retention or election thereof of <br />Legal Counsel afideof staff. Mr. Helmen moved we retain Mr. Bruce C. <br />Hammerschmi,dt as the Commission Legal Counsel. Motion was supported by <br />Rev. Williams and unanimously passed by all Comriissioners. Motion to <br />retain Mr. Bellinger and his staff was made by Mr. Chenney, seconded by <br />Rev. Williams, and also unanimously passed by all Commissioners. Compen- <br />sation for Legal Counsel remains l the same--$200.00 per month--along with <br />previous agreements for additional legal services to -remain in effect. <br />Staff compensation is in accordance with the City's Salary Ordinance for <br />1970. <br />-2- <br />
