6. PROGRESS REPORTS
a Relocation Progress Report of Rev. Billy
Kirk on LaSalle Park Urban Renewal Program, R -57:
Three families in area that are on the amendatory
have moved out of the LaSalle Park Project- -one re-
located into Public Housing, and the remaining two
have gone into private sales housing. Mr. Hathaway
of tie Greater South Bend Housing Corporation, at a
rece t meeting, explained the 221 (h) Housing Program
and igain assured that the families in the Urban Re-
newaL Areas will have first priority. Many families
in o r Urban Renewal Programs are eligible to buy
under the 221 (h) Housing Program. Rev. Kirk stated
our relationship with these people has been very
good and we expe-dt project residents who qualify will
be buying houses from the Greater South Bend Housing
Corporation, under the 221 (h) program. Rev. Kirk
also stated he is looking forward to doing more in
this area. President Wiggins said this program ap-
pearo to provide us with an added housing resource.
b Low - Income Housing Clinic: This subject
was discussed at a previous meeting and involves a
very limited program, which is being considered
jointly by the Urban League and the staff of the
Redevelopment Department. In exploring the desir-
ability of this program with the HUD officials, it
was noted that there is very slim chance that the
Federal Government can provide Federal financial
assistance to this program due to lack of funds.
This program anticipates the utilization of home
purchased and rehabilitated by the Redevelopment
Department. In addition to providing home - maker's
services in the remodeled home,, it will also pro-
vide the site for the relocation and rehabilitation
staff. The present site office is located in a'
building that is adjacent to the new Neighborhood
Recreation Center and the Park Department would be
pleased to see this building removed as soon as
possible. It was the consensus of the Commission
that the proposed program could serve a useful
purpose. The motion was made and unanimously
adopted directing the staff to move with dispatch
in finalizing the procedures for the program.
c Part II Application, Central Downtown
Urban Renewal Project, R -66: Mr. Bellinger ap-
pris d the Commission that the Part II of the ap-
plication of the Central Downtown Urban Renewal
Proj ct has been accepted and is now being pro-
cess d by the HUD technicians.
-7-
RELOCATION PROGRESS
REPORT, LASALLE PARK
URBAN RENEWAL PROGRAM
R -57
LOW - INCOME HOUSING
CLINIC, LASALLE PARK
URBAN RENEWAL PROJECT
R -57
PART II APPLICATION,
CENTRAL DOWNTOWN
URBAN RENEWAL PROJECT,
R -66
