Chapin
Street Project R -29: The Redevelopment De-
CHAPIN STREET
partment has
requested a final inspection of the site improve-
PROJECT, R -29
ment work for
this project on October 1, 1968. The pedes-
trian overpass
should be completed by mid - October. Improve-
ments to the
North half of the Western Avenue and Chapin
Street intersection
cannot begin until the City has acquired
all properties
involved. It appears that this acquisition
will take longer
than was originally anticipated.
c. LaSalle
Park Project R -57: Most of the site improve- LASALLE PARK
ment work under
contract has been completed, which included
PROJECT, R -57
streets, curbs,
sidewalks and storm sewers. The proposed
alley paving
may not be put in place until the spring of next
year. The
original plan called for adding this work, through
a Change Order,
to the paving contractor currently under con-
tract. The
contractor has notified the Redevelopment Depart-
ment they cannot
assure the Department this work can be
undertaken
this construction season, due to their other com-
mitments.
With this in mind, the staff feels securing com-
petitive bids
for this work may result in savings and project
improvement
costs. Chas. W. Cole & Son, Inc. is currently
working up
a cost estimate -and appropriate bid,documents.for-
consideration
by the Commission.
d. I
dustrial Expansion Project R -56: The Redevelop-
INDUSTRIAL EXPAN-
ment Department
has secured approval, from the Board of Works,
SION PROJECT, R -56
to burn buildings,
scheduled for demolition within the Indus-
trial Expansion
Urban Renewal Project. Considerable time has
elapsed from
the planning of the project to actual acquisi-
tion, and budget
costs for demolition work may not be suffi-
cient to cover
this cost. It is the intent of the Redevelop-
ment Department
to develop a demolition contract and bid do-
cuments encompassing
alternate demolition procedures. If
demolition
can be accomplished within the framework of the
budgeted f
nds, burning will not be required. In the event
7
