7. <br />a. Rel cation Progress Report, LaSalle Park- R -57. The total RELOCATION <br />work load f r the Relocation Office is 116 families and 9 indivi- PROGRESS RE- <br />duals. To late, 70 families and 7 individuals have been relocated, PORT, LASALLE <br />thus leavin a work load of 46 families and 2 individuals. Relocation PARK, R -57 <br />Readjustmen Payment claims are being consistently filed in order to, .; <br />eliminate w at happened in the Chapin Street Project in connection <br />with readju tment payments. Mr. Scott reported that the general <br />response ha improved in the area because the residents are <br />seeing some king happening, such as demolition, water main installa- <br />tions, diag ostic survey work, etc. <br />b. Wee4 Cutting. In response to the question about the Redevelop —WEED CUTTING <br />ment Department having any weeds to be cut, Mr. Barbe said yes there <br />were some aid the services of the part time man hired for this purpose <br />would be utilized again. The Redevelopment Department has no control <br />over the Ch pin Street Project land however, and any weeds there <br />would be ha dled by the redevelopers. <br />c. Plar Area Parcel 11 -8 LaSalle Park. Mr. William Drake, <br />South Bend Jrban League, reported that the playground area recently. <br />loaned to ai interested group of children by the Redevelopment De- <br />partment is still being developed. The lot has been cleaned off, <br />and so far he only donations have been one picnic table and a swingset. <br />However, by this weekend the J. C.'s will have more equipment.to, <br />donate to t e children—This has been a good project for the children. <br />d. Houiing Study Survey. Mrs. Curtis accommodated the Redevelop- <br />ment Commis ioners with a report of the Housing Study Survey being <br />conducted u der the auspices of the Public Housing Authority and <br />the Notre D me Research Laboratory recently contracted with by the <br />Redevelopme t Department. A copy of the survey questionnaire will be <br />provided tha Commissioners. The team is very well organized and will <br />enter 17 ce sus tracts which congregate low income families., This is <br />a study in lepth and will reveal such things as how many South Bend <br />people are n relief,'how low income people feel about public housing, <br />do they wan the leasing, program rather than public housing, Since <br />there is ex reme urgency and a Common Council decision is needed <br />before acce tance of a Lease Program in South Bend,.the.Common <br />Council has asked for a meeting with the staffs of the Redevelopment. <br />Department and the Housing Authority to receive a detailed explanation <br />of the pro g am and to get more information to the Common Council <br />Housing Co ittee of which Mr. Laven is Chairman. <br />The next re <br />at 10:30 A. <br />Department. <br />8.
