II. APPROVAL OF CLAIMS -- ContiAued <br />On motion made by Mr. Place, seconded by Mr. Koczan and unani- <br />mously carried, the Commission approved claims for payment total- <br />ing $43,578.58. <br />III. PROGRESS REPORT <br />Mr. Melvin Milligan II, Acting Chairman of the Mayor's MAYOR'S <br />Advisory Committee on Community Improvement, appeared ADVISORY <br />before the Commission and explained the reasons why the COMMITTEE <br />Committee feels that a Community Renewal Program is <br />desir ble for South Bend at this time. <br />The Commission pledged its wholehearted support to the <br />Advis ry Committee. <br />Mr. Sucher reported to the Commission that the Merri- <br />field Metal Products has offered to purchase a parcel of <br />land, 135' x 170', from the Redevelopment Department in <br />the Sample Street. Industrial Area - Indiana R -7, located <br />immediately North of the Aerospace ComFa,ny parcel. Upon <br />review of the Redeveloper's Statement of Qualifications <br />and Financial Responsibility by the Commission, the offer <br />of pu chase of land by the Merrifield Metal Products was <br />appro ed, subject to Urban Renewal Administration con- - <br />curre ce, on motion made by Mr. Koczan, seconded by Mr. <br />Place and unanimously carried. <br />MERRIFIELD <br />METAL <br />PRODUCTS <br />Aeros ace Company has requested that another 20' frontage AEROSPACE <br />be sold to them in addition to the 80' x 1701 parcel they COMPANY <br />have already bought. This also was tentatively approved <br />by the Commission. <br />Upon notion made by Mr. Place, seconded by Mr. Koczan <br />and unanimously carried, the Commission approved re- <br />investment of $100,000 from the Redevelopment District <br />Capital Fund for 90 -days in U.
