Pat Crowley, Jim Lietzan, Kevin
Allen
Agenda: Bill No. 29 -12 - Alley Vacation Michigan/Madison Sts.
Bill No. 36 -12 — Amend Code Adjust Fire Department Commercial Review Fees
Bill No. 29 -12 — Dr. David Varner, with a quorum of his committee present, reminded
the Committee this vacation request had been amended and the substitute bill reflected
the change. The sub was accepted and was presented by Jim Lietzan from the
engineering firm DLZ, representing Memorial Hospital. He noted only the E/W portion
of the alley between Michigan and Main was part of the vacation request. Following the
presentation, Gavin Ferlic motioned the bill be forwarded as amended favorably to full
Council. Valerie Schey seconded and all concurred.
Bill No. 36 -12 — This bill would change the flat fee charged by the fire department for
inspection of projects granted permits by the building department. The presenter, chief
Steve Cox SBFD, said the proposed sliding fee schedule would be more fair for the
builder than the flat fee. The change reflects the same type of sliding scale used by the
building department. Councilmember Tim Scott asked the Fire Chief what the revenue
had been in past years. The Chief said this was a new fee. Dr. Fred Ferlic asked if it
would discourage business. The Chief said the fairness of the sliding scale would
encourage those seeking permits. Chuck Bulot endorsed the request.
Valerie Schey motioned the bill get a favorable recommendation, Gavin Ferlic seconded
and all supported.
Under miscellaneous Dr. Varner asked Jitin Cain from the Economic Development
Department to give a brief progress report on the administration initiative to remake the
City website. Jitin previewed the aesthetics of the new home page emphasizing its
content and user friendliness. He highlighted the new global link bar, the tour of links,
and site navigation directions. Jitin said web site was still a work in progress and
encouraged Council input. The project should be complete by the end of November.
Henry Davis applauded the work done so far, then emphasized the need for the site to be
attractive, diverse, and user friendly.
