Pat Crowley, Jim Lietzan, Kevin <br />Allen <br />Agenda: Bill No. 29 -12 - Alley Vacation Michigan/Madison Sts. <br />Bill No. 36 -12 — Amend Code Adjust Fire Department Commercial Review Fees <br />Bill No. 29 -12 — Dr. David Varner, with a quorum of his committee present, reminded <br />the Committee this vacation request had been amended and the substitute bill reflected <br />the change. The sub was accepted and was presented by Jim Lietzan from the <br />engineering firm DLZ, representing Memorial Hospital. He noted only the E/W portion <br />of the alley between Michigan and Main was part of the vacation request. Following the <br />presentation, Gavin Ferlic motioned the bill be forwarded as amended favorably to full <br />Council. Valerie Schey seconded and all concurred. <br />Bill No. 36 -12 — This bill would change the flat fee charged by the fire department for <br />inspection of projects granted permits by the building department. The presenter, chief <br />Steve Cox SBFD, said the proposed sliding fee schedule would be more fair for the <br />builder than the flat fee. The change reflects the same type of sliding scale used by the <br />building department. Councilmember Tim Scott asked the Fire Chief what the revenue <br />had been in past years. The Chief said this was a new fee. Dr. Fred Ferlic asked if it <br />would discourage business. The Chief said the fairness of the sliding scale would <br />encourage those seeking permits. Chuck Bulot endorsed the request. <br />Valerie Schey motioned the bill get a favorable recommendation, Gavin Ferlic seconded <br />and all supported. <br />Under miscellaneous Dr. Varner asked Jitin Cain from the Economic Development <br />Department to give a brief progress report on the administration initiative to remake the <br />City website. Jitin previewed the aesthetics of the new home page emphasizing its <br />content and user friendliness. He highlighted the new global link bar, the tour of links, <br />and site navigation directions. Jitin said web site was still a work in progress and <br />encouraged Council input. The project should be complete by the end of November. <br />Henry Davis applauded the work done so far, then emphasized the need for the site to be <br />attractive, diverse, and user friendly. <br />
