It was decided that Mr. Place, Mr. Helmen, Mr. Baer, and "possibly Mt�, Sucher, <br />see the 1dayor as soon as possible to impress him with the importance of hiring <br />the additional planner, and that Mr. Huff, City Planning Director, should be <br />available if called. <br />It was also decided to find out by mail or by inviting a federal representative <br />to South Bend, whether the General Plan elements would be acceptable in draft <br />form, and whether suggestions made in the U.R.A. review of the Workable <br />Program would be mandatory to meet General Plan prerequisites. <br />IV. IL(A D 01PERATI NG 13TSIDGMT <br />The 1960 Operating Budget Proposal, which had been previously distributed to <br />the Co issioners, was discussed. <br />The allo ance for rent was increased because of the forthcoming rental of a <br />Relocation Office in the Sample Street Area. This Office will enable us to keep <br />in direct touch with the people in that area. <br />The Bud et, totaling $79, ?00, was then approved upon motion made by Mr. Helmen, <br />secondedl by Mr. Louis, and unanimously carried. <br />V. The area to be included <br />will be d termined by the legislation coming out of Washington. <br />A Survey & Planning Application for the Linden School Area Project would probably <br />not be approved until more definite facts about the 2nd low -rent housing project <br />are known. The idea pre- <br />sented at the conference of assigning individual commission members to head <br />functional committees had impressed him deeply. <br />He went con to give an example of how one Commissioner could head a Relocation <br />Committee and work with citizens' groups, another could do the same in the <br />field of demolition, another in rehabilitation, etc. <br />-3- <br />
