4. <br />MBINED CITY RELOCATION STAFF (cont'd) <br />It was also brought out that approximately 50% of the people in the project area <br />were land owners and 5016 were renters, with the area involving 350 dwelling <br />units. We try to aid the people in finding places that meet the minimum housing <br />requi ements at the price they can afford. However, we just suggest, and they <br />make heir own choice. The relocation of the renters (mostly Negroes) will <br />be oux major job. We will work along with realtors, civic groups, etc., in <br />this respect. There will be an allowance of approximately $100 towards the <br />moviny expenses made in each case of need. <br />In ans er' to Mr. Louis's question, Mr. Sucher stated that at a later date it <br />would be both feasible and advisable to have Mr. Dowdell work along with the <br />Commission, and also for a forming of a Citizens Advisory Group in which all <br />interested parties could participate, <br />Mr. oczan stated he thought there was nothing else to do but to go along with <br />all of his until we receive the money from the Government, and it was agreed <br />by all <br />5. SALARIES OF DRAFTSMAN AND SECRETARY <br />Mr. Sucher proposed two increases in the salaries of the Redevelopment Staff, <br />namely, the draftsman and the secretary, for the final planning phase of the <br />Sample Street project. Commending on the ability of t dr services, he sug- <br />gested a future rate of $5, 000 for the draftsman and $4 )00 for the secretary. <br />All w re unanimously in favor, and the proposal was passed. <br />6. T1tIPS AND REIMBURSEMENTS <br />The following conferences regarding Redevelopment were to be held in the <br />near luture, in which any of the Commission members were invited to attend: <br />May 9 -20 National Urban League on Renewal - Milwaukee <br />Conference on Redevelopment, what it has done, and <br />how it has effected the Negroes <br />May 8 -23 Conference of Planning Officials - Washington, D.C. <br />Mr. Sucher felt this was a good opportunity to <br />recruit another staff member <br />May <br />-27 Governor's Conference on Urban Affairs - Bloomington <br />-4- <br />
