It was also suggested that a relocation worker accompany <br />these tenants in their endeavor to obtain other housing in order <br />to determine whether some of'the referral units are unobtainable to <br />them a d, if so, for what reason, or whether they are refused by the <br />family referred. <br />VIII. (PROGRESS REPORT <br />The Commission, upon motion made by Mr. Koczan, approved COMMITTEE <br />by Mr. Place, and unanimously carried, approved the pro- ON MINORITY <br />posed change and addition to the minutes of September 21, HOUSING <br />1961, paragraph titled "Lack of Housing for Minority PROBLEMS <br />Groups', to read as follows: <br />"Mr. Morris and Mrs. Curtis expressed their concern over <br />the lack of housing available for minority groups and large <br />families. A written recommendation was presented from the <br />Committee on Minority Housing Problems which requested <br />action by the Mayor and City Council towards finding housing <br />for displaced families. This Committee requested a joint <br />meetinc between the Mayor, City Council, Housing Authority <br />and Ur an Renewal Commission. This recommendation was endorsed <br />by the Commissioners present and they instructed Mr. Baer, LPA <br />Counse to contact the mayor for such a meeting. The further <br />concer is the number of these problem families that will be <br />displa ed by the Chapin Street Project." <br />Mr. Sucher reported that a delegation from the LaSalle LASALLE <br />Park District met in his office and urged early action PARK <br />in their area. It was pointed out to the delegation DISTRICT <br />that H11FA feels the LaSalle Park area is too big for a <br />single project, and that it should be submitted as a <br />General Neighborhood Renewal Plan. It was suggested that <br />the ar4Ea be reduced in size instead, and submitted, probably <br />by Dec Ember, as a Survey & Planning Application for a single <br />project. The HHFA has previously advised the South Bend <br />Redevelopment Department to wait until it completes the <br />planning phase of the Chapin Street Project. Mr. Logan <br />emphasized, however, that something should be done soon in <br />order o prevent a loss of interest in the neighborhood. <br />The Cor4mission concurred. <br />ME <br />
