OSHA 10-Hour General Industry (10 hours of instruction) <br />This 10-hour workshop, known as "OSHA 10" provides employees with awareness of common job -related <br />safety and health hazards and instructs them on how to stay safe on the job through hazard identification, <br />avoidance, control, and prevention. Upon completion of all 10 hours of this workshop, participants will receive <br />their OSHA 10 Card. <br />Topics covered: <br />- introduction to OSHA, including worker's rights and employer responsibilities. <br />- Walking and working surfaces and fall protection. <br />- Fire prevention and emergency response. <br />- Electrical safety. <br />- Personal protective equipment. <br />- Hazard communication. <br />- Fall protection. <br />- Machine guarding. <br />- Safety and health programs, including how to prevent workplace hazards. <br />Intended audience: manufacturing personnel at all levels. <br />Communication Skills for Workforce Success <br />Organizations today want employees with effective communication skills, or the ability to clearly send and <br />receive messages to and from others. In this workshop, you'll learn how to effectively communicate verbally <br />and nonverbally as well as how to listen for maximum understanding. We'll also explore generational, cultural, <br />and style differences as they relate to communication. You can expect to leave this workshop with a better <br />understanding of your own communication strengths and opportunities and well as practical ideas for <br />improving your own communication. <br />Objectives: <br />- Explain why effective communication is important in the workplace. <br />- List the ways we communicate. <br />- Describe how to effectively communicate verbally. <br />- Explain what nonverbal communication is and how it affects overall communication. <br />- Explain how to listen actively. <br />- Explain how generation, culture, and style affects communication. <br />Intended audience: <br />- Individuals new to manufacturing or the workforce. <br />- Individuals seeking work. <br />- Individuals desiring to upgrade their workplace skills. <br />Note: this course was developed as part of the workforce certificate. <br />Purdue MEP Center mep.purdue.edu 800-877-5182 Project#18871 Page 10 <br />
