INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
DIVISION OF ENGINEERING
TO: Members of the Board of Public Works
Eric Horvath, Director of Public Works
Clara McDaniels, Assistant City Attorney Public Works
Kara Boyles, City Engineer
Linda M. Martin, Clerk
FROM: Jacob M. Klosinski, Assistant City Engineer
SUBJECT: 117-108 Airport Annexation Area Sanitary Sewer Extenstion
Change Order No. 1
DATE: June 18, 2019
The Department of Public Works and Division of Engineering request the Board of Public Works
approval of Change Order No. 1 for Project No. 117-108 Airport Annexation Sanitary Sewer
Extension.
Purpose for Chan e Order No. 1
During construction, four (4) fire hydrants were identified without restrained fittings between the
fire hydrant and their respective isolation valves. The cost for hydro excavation, temporary
removal of the fire hydrant, and the replacement of eight (8) restrained fittings resulted in an
increased cost of $1,800.00 per fire hydrant for a total of $7,200.00 for the additional scope of
work.
It is important to note that the water main installed in this area was installed around 2004 and
should have been installed with restrained water main pipe joints. This water main provides fire
protection along US 20 west of Pine Road and into the Terre Verde subdivision where municipal
water service is provided. Given the installation method of the fire hydrants on US 20, the
remaining hydrants in the Terre Verde Subdivision likely to have unrestrained joints and should
eventually be outfitted with restrained joints between the isolation valve and the fire hydrant.
Funding for this Change Order should be allocated from the 2018 TIF River West — Airport Account
(324-1050 460 ' 1-0 ,).
For questions regarding the above recommendation or the subject project, contact Jacob M.
Klosinski (Ext. 9496) at the Division of Engineering.
