It was not possible to know <br />the condition of the masonry behind the existing fire stairs prior to their removal. The single <br />Wythe of brick must support the new fire stairs and therefore must be repaired before the <br />contractor can complete the stairway installation. Brick at the southernmost fire stair is in <br />particularly poor condition. Limited repair is not appropriate for this stair. The other three stair <br />shafts are in better condition such that repairs can be limited to just what is required to secure <br />the new stairs. Safety is an issue as the stairways must be securely anchored to the building. <br />Please call with your questions, <br />
