PerleY,present, <br />his`siEteetin bei' g ngcsl�adtoconsiders end discuss the paving o' <br />Calvert StrAet- from °Miahigan Street to High Street. a resolution for which had been <br />adopted by the Board of Public Works and sot for hearing on Wednesday Larch 26th. <br />1919 at 7s15.P.M. <br />The members of the Board of Park Commissioners present unanimously <br />objected to the paving of Calvert Street through the Studebaker Park, sztd requested <br />that the Board-4r©pthe proceedings, so tbit their Board could vacate this street, <br />stated they did not want a street through Studebaker Park. Mr. Elbel informed the <br />Boardthat he had had a conference with the County Commissioners yesterday at their <br />meeting and that they agreed not to,do anything with the culvert over Calvert Street <br />until they heard from the Board of Park Commissioners, also that the County <br />Commissioners' -stated = that they wow _rather not build It. <br />City .Attorney Slick suggested that- the. street paving through the <br />Park eould be Dut In with curves and not -a straight street, but the Board of Park <br />Commissioners objected to any kind of a street 'peing }saved throughthe pork. <br />,. Mr. Elliott .opeaking .for the Board of Public Works explained that <br />Calvert Street is a.dedleated street through Studebaker Park and under the Board <br />of Public Works juroisd ict ion and the Board Intended to go ahead and pave this <br />Street as soon. as possible.,. <br />Mr. Elbel read : a part of a ruling from a report of the park Board of <br />Indianapolis in regard to op in ion of Indianapolis Law firm on power of the Board of <br />Park gotailes.iouers in taking over Vtroots without going to the Board of Public -Works <br />and the Common Council. Mr. Ridenour asked Attorney Slick if he was prepared to <br />give a ruling on this, and Mr. Slick stated no not to -night. <br />The muter of maintenance of boulevards was next discussed, and <br />Mr. Elbel Pres. of the Park Board stated that this matter has never been before <br />this Board before. Something of this kind came up during the Goetz Adminc and <br />while Mr. Seebirt was City Attorney, and Mr. Seebirt as City Attorney ruled that <br />the City Council could not turn over any money for anything other than for, <br />Paying for street" assessments.. The Council had no sight to give us any money <br />o'Oly for assessments other than our 9 cent levy. Stated they would have to. <br />ask Council for money for maintenance and could not get the same. <br />The matter of sweeping and maintenance of boulevards in the City <br />resolved itself into a decision from the City Attorney: and the Common Council. <br />The Board unanimous ecided,to have private alley on the south side <br />of the cityHall --Aosed and the Stree a i i . t -� . sa onar was ordered .to clew bhe alley <br />from both ends and report to the_Board when same was taken care of. <br />Pres ident. <br />
