PUBLIC WORKS AND PROPERTY VACATION JUNE 25, 2012 <br />3:30 P.M. <br />Committee Member's Present: Dr. David Varner, Oliver Davis, Gavin Ferlic, <br />Valerie Schey <br />Other Council Member's Present: Tim Scott, Henry Davis, Dr. Fred Ferlic <br />Karen White, Derek Dieter <br />Other's Present: Phil Byrd, Brad Mosness, Al Carothers, Christa Nayder, Tim Hudak, <br />Sheri Miler -Story, Murray Miller, Kevin Allen, Gary Gilot, Pat Crowley, Kathy <br />Cekanski - Farrand, Mike Divita, Jitin Cain, Aladean DeRose, Catherine Hostetler <br />Agenda: Bill No. 17 -12 — Vacate Alley Olive St. <br />Bill No. 23 -12 — Vacate Kalorama St. <br />Bill No. 17 -12 is a petition to vacate an alley by Al Carothers on Longley just east of <br />Olive St. The petition received a positive recommendation from the Area Plan <br />Commission with one proviso. Because of a two inch plastic gas main, no structure <br />could be built on the vacated portion. All affected city departments signed off approving <br />the petition as well. Mr. Carothers made a brief presentation. In the council portion <br />Henry Davis suggested the city develop an effort to encourage the acquisition of tax sale <br />properties by adjacent homeowners to put the properties back on the tax rolls while <br />giving the opportunities to plant gardens beautifying their neighborhoods. <br />Oliver Davis made a motion the bill go to council favorably. Valerie Schey seconded and <br />all affirmed. <br />Bill No. 23 -12 is a petition initiated by the city to vacate a portion of Kalorama <br />previously believed to have been vacated at an earlier meeting. Brad Mosness from <br />Abonmarche made the presentation for the City noting the BPW voted in favor of <br />correcting the oversight. <br />Oliver Davis motion favorable recommendation. Valerie Schey followed with a second <br />and all approved. <br />Under miscellaneous Valerie Schey asked what could be done to expedite the remedial <br />process for problem properties in a designated historical district. Catherine Hostetler <br />from Historic Preservation promised to follow -up with her. <br />Gary Gilot promised to provide a transportation improvement plan update for the council <br />at the July 9th meeting. <br />
