Marsh of 131 No. St. Louis Blvd. as <br />Building Inspector, services to start work June 15th.,1918 at a salary of $90,00 per <br />month. <br />The Board appointed Wm. L, N ies, clerk in the Building Department <br />to fill the place vacant by the res ignat ion of E. N. Improvement Resolution No. 569 for the pavement of <br />Blaine Avenue from Lincoln Way West to Portage Avenue and Improvement Resolution No. 568 <br />f or the pavement of Harvey Street from Allen Street to Blaine A venue it is now determined <br />by the Board that it i3 impossible for this Board or for any contractor to secure a permit <br />from the said United States Fuel Adminstrat ion, Oil D iv is ion to purchafse from au7 pro- <br />ducer whatsoever as.pha It of any kind or brand for the construction of said Blaine Avenue. <br />And now the said Williston Construction Company by its Vice -President <br />Edgar A. Coates, appears b -if ore the Board in response to a request heretofore made by the <br />Board upon the said Williston Construction Company; and the said Williston Construction <br />Company is now not if ied of the receipt of the notice received by the Board from the United <br />States Fuel Administration,, Oil Division; and the said. Board inquires of the said Williston <br />Construction Company, if, notwithstanding jrhe refusal of the United States Fuel Admin- <br />istration, Oil Division to grant the application made by the City of South Bend through <br />its Board of Public Works for authority to obtain delivery of said asphalt, the said <br />Williston Construction Company can procure from other sources than producers sufficient <br />asphalt with which to construct the said pavement and in other respects, perform the terms <br />and c and it ions: of . its gontract. <br />And the said Edgar E. Coates for and on behalf of the said Williston <br />Construction. Company informs this Board that he is able to procure from private individuals <br />suff is ient Texaco asphalt produced by the Texas Company with which to complete the said <br />c ontract . <br />And now . the said Board requests its City Chemist, Isaac Van Trump to <br />appear before the Board on June 18th. ,1918 and inform the Board whether dr no Texaco <br />asphalt produced by the said Texas CompAny is of equal merit With that of the Trinidad <br />Natural Lake Asphalt, and whether or no the pavement constructed with the said Texaco <br />Asphalt will be equal duribility and will afford equal service with that of Trinidad <br />Lake Asphalt. <br />President. <br />
