Prior to 2011, fewer <br />than 500 of these indications were countdown -style. With the <br />already high levels of pedestrian traffic in the area expected to <br />grow with completion of the Cultural Trail, the City applied for and <br />received HSIP funding to upgrade many of these signals and <br />improve pedestrian safety. <br />Adding to the project's urgency, the City wished to have all of the <br />upgrades complete in time to welcome guests for the 2012 Super <br />Bowl. To expedite the installation, A&F performed all of the design <br />services, including coordination of the approval of the <br />environmental documentation, coordination of the right-of-way <br />certification, and amendment of the TIP/STIP. <br />10 <br />
