REGULAR MEETING November 26, 2018
trains or serves youth. That includes schools, faculty, staff, faith groups, universities, volunteers
and other organizations. It is fast and upcoming,Thursday December 13th, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
It is free and lunch is served. It will be held at Ivy Tech Community College. RSVP, please.
Councilmember Karen White stated, Tuesday, November 27th the Personnel and Finance
Committee along with the Administration will have a meeting from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to talk
about TIF and looking at how this particular tool is used for economic development in the City of
South Bend. This is really an outcome of the 2019 budget hearings and there will be a series of
discussions that will come in 2019. It will be in the Council Conference Room.
PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR
Samuel Brown, 222 East Navarre Street, South Bend, IN stated, I want to address the Council
tonight. I know you guys sitting on that Council probably don't really think about a lot of this but
the decisions you make for our community mean a lot for the betterment of our City. The reason I
say that is because my granddaughter Indie goes to Notre Dame and she brought three (3)
individuals home for Thanksgiving which I wasn't really too happy about but it turned out pretty
well. One (1) of the young ladies was from Mexico. It was a thirty (30) hour trip to get to South
Bend's Notre Dame. Another was from Vietnam and the other young lady was from China. I was
very proud they came home with my granddaughter so I put them all on the spot and I asked how
they all got there. I asked them what made them want to come here and if Notre Dame was their
first(1st)choice. All three(3)of them said no. Notre Dame wasn't their deciding factor. The whole
geographic layout of the land was for them. The community. These kids are really bright and
they've done their homework of where they've wanted to live for four(4) years. I was very proud
of them listening to their story. So the decisions you guys make are really important to our City
because somebody is watching. I'm talking about these young kids, seventeen (17) and eighteen
(18)years old, and they've done their homework. One(1)of the young ladies said New York City.
She said Notre Dame wasn't the deciding factor. She said she was offered more money at other
places. So keep up the good work and keep making sound decisions to help our City because
somebody is watching. I'm so proud and thankful I had dinner with those young ladies.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Council, President Tim Scott adjourned the
meeting at 8:42 p.m.
20
