RESOLUTION q( d t"( 2-- <br />Bill No. 12- <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />REQUESTING THAT KENNEDY PARK AND BELLEVILLE PARK BECOME PRIORITIES <br />FOR OBTAINING MORE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AND UPDATED SHORT AND LONG - <br />TERM CAPITAL PLANS <br />6)ffwm&A Kennedy Park located on Olive Street at Westmoor Street contains 38.56 acres and <br />Belleville Park located on Evergreen Lane at Meadow Lane are dedicated to park and recreational <br />activities in the City of South Bend; and <br />6A Kennedy Park and Belleville Park are listed among the eighty (80) listed parks <br />and facilities on the South Bend Parks & Recreation official website; and <br />G ere, in 2000, the Kennedy Water Playground opened as a "low- depth, interactive water <br />playground which is geared for children between 18 months and 10 years of age; with some of the <br />features including a slide, tire swing, and multiple spray features being available for fees if 3 years <br />or older with the facilities being opened from June 71 to August 8th; and <br />6 on April 12, 2004, the South Bend Common Council passed Ordinance No. 9500- <br />04 which approved the transfer of 0.374 acres of the northern portion of Kennedy Park to the City <br />of South Bend in order to permit the City to straighten and make other improvements to Bendix <br />Drive; and <br />6A" in the interest of addressing the growing needs of the residents and visitors who <br />frequent Kennedy Park and Belleville Park this Resolution is being filed so that there will be <br />discussions with the Park Department and Board of Park Commissioners before the 2013 budget <br />process begins. <br />Telry <br />follows: <br />Section I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, believes that South <br />Bend provides great park and recreational opportunities throughout our city. <br />Section II. The Council believes that there continues to be a growing and sustained demand <br />for more playground equipment at Kennedy and Belleville Parks which should be addressed before <br />next year's budget process begins. <br />Section III. The Council further believes that positive discussions should take place so that <br />the needs in these two (2) popular parks may take place. <br />Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by <br />the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />
