Hunt Plaza. <br /> "I first met Richard at the Art Festival in Leeper Park in June 2008. I then commissioned <br /> him to do sculpture work for the Jon R. Hunt Plaza," said Dennis Andres,Executive <br /> Director of the Morris Performing Arts Center. "This was Richard's last piece before he <br /> passed of cancer. If he were alive today he would greatly appreciate this award. I am <br /> happy to receive it on his behalf." <br /> Peterman,who was from Grandville,Michigan,passed away in May 2011. He created <br /> "City Garden"as his last sculpture using mostly recycled materials with wire welding <br /> and brazing. Peterson also created the"Guitar Man" sculpture which was installed in <br /> May 2009 at the southwest entrance to the plaza near Colfax Avenue. Peterson was <br /> passionate about a cleaner environment for over 30 years and used many recycled <br /> automotive related materials for his artwork. <br /> The Public Art award reinforces the connection between the community and downtown's <br /> identity by providing a focal point that attracts people, generates a vibrant street life, and <br /> overall enjoyment of public life experiences. <br /> "City Garden"was paid for by an "Art in Public Places" grant through the Roland W. <br /> Goheen Trust Foundation. <br /> 1400 COUNTY-CITY BUILDING- 227 W.IEFFERSON BOULEVARD-SOUTH BEND,INDIANA 46601 <br /> PHONE 574/235-9261 FAx 574/235-9892 <br />
