<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />IX.Comments by the Recreation Director <br /> <br />1. Ms. O'Connor reported that the Charles Black Center had a breakfast this morning in <br />honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. day. <br />2. At the Ice Rink, the closing has affected the programming there. Fifty-one public <br />skating sessions have been lost and twelve private sessions. 300 hockey rental hours <br />have been canceled. <br /> <br /> <br />X.Comments by the Golf Operations Director <br />1. Mr. Nowacki reported that preparations are underway for the 2008 season. <br />2. 2008 capital projects include the purchase of twenty golf cars, rebuilding of the <br />irrigation pumps at Erskine, the counters at the Erskine Pro Shop are being refinished, <br />and the bathrooms at Studebaker are being remodeled. <br />3. The irrigation upgrade project at Elbel will be the largest project of 2008. Bid packages <br />went out last Friday. He thanked Mr. Bodnar for his help preparing the bid packets. A <br />special meeting has been arranged to open the bids on February 4. They will be awarded <br />on February 11 at the rescheduled regular meeting. It is hoped the project will begin on <br />March 15. June 30 is the projected finish date. <br />4. He said the biggest challenge for 2008 is to enhance the revenue of the golf courses. <br />2007 was not a profitable year due to a decline in rounds from weather and a general <br />decline industry wide. The Golf Division is looking at all aspects of the operation to <br />close the gap. In 2008 a marketing strategy is being put together that includes GPS <br />advertising, newspaper ads, weekly specials, and revenue enhancements in concessions, <br />as well as fee increases. <br /> Mr. T J Mannen, Elbel Golf Course Manager, explained the proposed fee structure for <br />the 2008 season. <br /> <br /> <br />XI.Comments by the Zoo Director <br /> <br />1. Mr. DeRosa reported that he was in the process of filling several vacant and new <br />positions on the Zoo staff. <br />2. A meeting with CTG and Associates is planned this week to plan the renovations at the <br />Zoo. <br />3. Winter Days at the Zoo drew 50 visitors even though it was 16 degrees. <br />4. The Butterfly Exhibit and America’s Exhibit are being readied for opening at the end of <br />March. <br /> <br /> <br />XII.Comments by Maintenance Superintendent <br /> <br />1. Mr. Mike Dyszkiewicz informed the Board that leaf removal and snow removal are <br />going on. <br /> - - 4 - - <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
