South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br /> Regular Meeting—April 10, 2012 <br /> 6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.) <br /> C. Airport Economic Development Area <br /> (7) Staff report and recommendation for <br /> Renaissance District Phase II. <br /> Mr. Schalliol noted that on March 13, 2-12 <br /> the Redevelopment Commission was <br /> presented with an overview of the project <br /> being called "The Renaissance District." The <br /> project would be located at the southern end <br /> of downtown, bounded by South Street, <br /> Lafayette Boulevard, Sample Street and Scott <br /> Street. The Renaissance District would allow <br /> Union Station Technology Center (USTC), <br /> which is now located in Union Station, to <br /> expand south of the rail tracks into the Ivy <br /> Tower building, with additional plans for a <br /> larger, dense, mixed use community <br /> technology center. While Phase I of this <br /> project provided an updated power <br /> infrastructure, Phase II includes <br /> environmental remediation and rehabilitation <br /> of the Ivy Tower building. Plans for the <br /> rehabilitated space include data center <br /> environments, advanced manufacturing and <br /> rapid prototyping businesses, software <br /> development companies, and <br /> supercomputing capabilities, along with a <br /> centralized energy source to provide recycled <br /> energy for electric and thermal needs. USTC <br /> and The Renaissance District are founded on <br /> four core principles - - Space, Power <br /> Connectivity, and Innovation. <br /> The first phase of the project covered power <br /> and connectivity. The Commission was <br /> asked to participate in an extension of <br /> conduits that would bring power to the site to <br /> allow for new development to occur in the <br /> Ivy Tower building.
