South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —April 10, 2012
Staff requests Commission approval of Phase
II of the Renaissance District project and the
Memorandum of Understanding.
Mr. Davis expressed his enthusiasm for the
project. He would like to see immediate
benefit for the initial tax dollars. He
specifically mentioned training programs
connected to all schools and the hiring of
local contractors, particularly seeing that the
WBE ordinance statewide and federal be
enforced. This would make it a win -win for
the total community.
Mr. Varner expressed that he, too, is very
excited. He has always thought that the best
investment is in existing businesses. He
thinks this is the jump start the city's been
waiting for.
Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by
Mr. Davis and unanimously carried, the
Commission approved the Memorandum of
Understanding, subject to final review of
Exhibit #2, Environmental Agreement
regarding the Ivy Tower Building.
Mr. Smith noted that his mission is to exceed
the Commission's expectations.
B. South Bend Central Development Area
(1) Staff report, final site plan and
development specifications for the
disposition parcel at Jefferson & Niles.
(former Troeger site)
Mr. Relos noted that on June 14, 2011, the
Commission was presented with preliminary
development plans from David Matthews for
the former Troeger site at the northeast
corner of Jefferson and Niles. On June 28,
16
COMMISSION APPROVED THE MEMORANDUM OF
UNDERSTANDING, SUBJECT TO FINAL REVIEW OF
EXHIBIT #2, ENVIRONMENTAL AGREEMENT
REGARDING THE IVY TOWER BUILDING.
