RESOLUTION NO. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, AWARDING JOHN SCHALLIOL, FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE <br />SOUTH BEND REGIONAL AIRPORT WITH A "2012 SOUTH BEND CITIZEN AWARD" <br />6)6" the South Bend Common Council notes that the vibrancy of our city is reflected by <br />the residents who selflessly contribute to the betterment of our community; and <br />6* the Common Council is proud to recognize that former Executive Director of the <br />South Bend Regional Airport, John Schalliol, retired on February 29, 2012; and <br />G� the Council notes that Mr. Schalliol began his career in 1977 as an airport engineer <br />and was promoted to be the airport's Executive Director in 1981; and <br />G " when Mr. Schalliol started working at the airport, he worked in a building built in <br />1949 located on airport property of just 700 acres which has grown from old grass runways to over <br />2,200 acres; which provides services for four (4) air carriers with non -stop flights to ten (10) cities, <br />namely Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Las Vegas, Phoenix -Mesa, Minneapolis, <br />Orlando /Sanford, and Tampa Bay /St. Petersburg which impacts South Bend and the surrounding <br />communities in annual economic impact in excess of $433.7 million. <br />Soar, QKA , 66 it m oAvd, 4y fi% <br />Ttl <br />- eC'ad And, (AAm a, as <br />follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council is <br />pleased to publicly present to JOHN SCHALLIOL, former Executive Director of the South Bend <br />Regional Airport with a "2012 SOUTH BEND CITIZEN AWARD ". <br />Section II. The Common Council thanks John for his 35 years of dedicated service to the <br />airport, our community and the aviation industry; and wishes him, his wife, Gale and their sons Bill <br />and Charley the very best in the years ahead.
