PARC COMMITTEE
MARCH 12, 2012
Committee Members Present:
Gavin Ferlic, Valerie Schey, Oliver Davis, Tim Scott
Citizen Members:
Beth Ferlic, John Mazurkiewicz
Other Council Members Present:
Dr. Fred Ferlic, Dr. David Varner, Derek Dieter, Karen White
Others Present:
Kathleen Cekanski - Farrand, Mark Neal, Betsy Harriman, John Murphy
Agenda: Bill No. 04 -12 — Appropriation Fund #227 Improvements at Belleville and
Howard Park
Chairperson Gavin Ferlic opened the PARC Committee meeting at 3:30 p.m., rioting all
members including both citizen members present. The one bill on the Agenda Bill No.
04 -12, was a requested appropriation of $208,735 from fund #227 from improvements at
Belleville and Howard Parks.
Gavin asked City Controller Mark Neal to present the request. Mark said the money
came from an insurance claim the City made after vandals set fire to wooden playground
equipment at Belleville which was originally donated by Rotary. The estimated cost to
replace the Belleville equipment is $150 thousand. The balance would be used for
improvements at Howard Park.
Turning to the Council, Gavin recognized Oliver Davis who expressed appreciation for
the upgraded replacement at Belleville. Councilmember Varner asked if park security
had been upgraded. Councilmember Scott wondered whether the new equipment was
metal not wood.
Betsy Harriman, Assistant Park Director, assured both that efforts were being made to
improve security and that metal equipment was ordered.
There was no public comment.
Councilmember Oliver Davis motioned the bill go to full Council favorably. Tim Scott
offered a second and all agreed.
Under miscellaneous Council President Dieter reminded everyone about the Silverhawk's
Open House on Wednesday, March 14`l' from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. at the Doubletree.
