Board met in regular session at 10:00 A.M. All members present. Bids ,were received, opened and read for -tht,following improvements. Pipe sewer on Frances Street fr om S or in Street t o S outh Bend Avenue. Cleaning and deepening of McCartney Creek from La Salle Lake to Vassar Ave. The above bids were referred to the Engineering Dept. to be tabulated. Clerk instructed to advertise Miami Street Pipe sewer as no bids were received'. The same to be advertised August loth. ,1916. -nd August 17th. ,1916. and bids to be received August 29th. ,1916. at 10: 00 A M. Board reserves the right to reject -any and all bids. Clerk instructed to notify Mr. F. T. Bonds Mgr. of the Central Union Tel. C oanran.y in reply to his c ommunicat i on August 1st. , that they will expect him to c onf orm to 'bhe underground Ordinance and Franchise governing their construction work and will expect the South Bend Home Telephone Company to do likewise. BE IT RESOLVED DY TIE BOARD OF PUBLIC NORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND 3T . J(X3E H J OUNTY ST.�TE Or IND L�NA , That iu desired and deemed necessary to improve Chapin Street from Calvert Street to Ewing Avenue as follows, to -wit: - By grading said street from property line to pxperty line; by paving the roadway from curb line to curb line :with °ravel three (3) inches in de th; and by constructing cement sidewalk and cement curb on the west side of said Chapin Street from Calvert Street to Ewing Avenue. All as shown on the plans and in accordance with the profiles, detail drawings and specifications on file in the office o the Department of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana. The cost of the improvement herein provided for, except street and alley intersections, shall be raid by special assessment . to be levied upon the property specially be nef fitted , to the amount That the same may be legally assessed therefor, in accordance -with an Act of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, entitled "An Act Concerning Municipal Corrorations, approved March 6,1905, and in accordance with and pursuant to the pr ov is ions of all acts amendatory and supplemental thereto. The cost of all street and alley intersections including one-half of -the width of the imrrovement opposite street and alleys which run into, but do not cross said roadway herein proposed to be impr oved and that portion of such street or alley ahntting�:uton--property belonging to said City, or upon property not subject to such as:3es.3ments shall be paid by the Cfity in cash out of its general fund, if able to do so, or from a fund created by a special assessment to be levied under the provisions of Section 108 of the above entitled Act.
