South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—February 14, 2012
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
E. Northeast Neighborhood Development Area
(1) continued...
with some initial streetscape concepts in
early January and presented their results to
the Northeast Neighborhood Revitalization
Organization (NNRO) and city
representatives. Part of the concept is the
continuation of a 10' multi-purpose trail from
SR23 down Eddy Street. Initial concepts
showed the multi-purpose path extending
only to Madison Street because some
established building footprints were too close
to the right-of-way line. However, it was
determined that connecting this path from
Madison Street to existing city paths and bike
lanes was essential to serve pedestrians and
bicyclists; therefore, alternate routes were to
be sought.
Staff is proposing to expand the study area
and add a few additional blocks on the West
side of the street to connect the Eddy Street
multi-purpose path to the Colfax Avenue
bike lanes. DLZ has submitted a new
proposal for this expanded area which
includes the following scope of services:
1. Record street measurements along
Cedar, Madison and Frances Streets
2. Conduct a windshield survey of the
expanded area and document existing
street amenities
3. Review St. Joseph High School site
plans along Notre Dame Avenue
4. Schedule additional meetings with St.
Joseph High School and city
representatives
5. Develop an alternate route for the
8
