„ , : ;~, a <br />~ ~' "l ~ 1" <br />~ ®n o ® - <br />°$ g <br />4 <br />2007 Annual Report <br />of the Community and Economic Development Committee <br />of the South Bend Common Council <br />Date: December 10, 2007 <br />To: The South Bend Common Council <br />The Office of the City Clerk <br />From: 1St District Council Member Derek Dieter, Chairperson <br />Community and Economic Development Committee <br />I am pleased to file the following 2007 Annual Report of the activities of the Council's <br />Community and Economic Committee which is required by § 2-10 (i) of the South Bend <br />Municipal Code. As each of you will recall, the Community and Economic Development <br />Committee is charged with: <br />"Overseeing the various activities of the Department of Community and Economic Development and <br />programs directed by the Division of Community Development, Division of Economic Development and Financial <br />and Program Management "pursuant to § 2-10 (i) (2) of the South Bend Municipal Code. <br />There were four (4) Council Members on this Committee, namely: Randy Kelly who served as <br />Vice-Chairperson, and Ann Puzzello and Karen L. White as Members, and myself as Chair. <br />Professor Martin Wolfson of the University of Notre Dame and Phil Panczica of Panzica <br />Building Corporation provided valuable insights as our citizen member. <br />The Community and Economic Development Committee was one of the more active <br />standing committees with twenty-two (22) meetings being held. The bulk of the <br />Committee meetings focused on various types of tax abatement requests, appropriation <br />requests, updates on DTSB, Inc., Project Future, formally establishing the "Dollar House <br />Program", as well as continuing discussion of our local tax abatement procedures. Tax <br />abatement requests included discussions on the following: <br />• Tax Abatement requests heard in chronological order for: <br />4440 North Portage Road (1St District) for South Bend Clinic <br />Various addresses for Kendall-Weiss, LLP <br />920 St. Peter Street for Jill R. Bodensteiner <br />
