SpU TH 8F <br /> R R <br /> 1865 <br /> CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br /> PETE BUTTIGIEG, MAYOR <br /> OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> February 15, 2012 <br /> Contact:Debra Johnson,Director of Communications <br /> Phone: 574-235-9261 <br /> MAYOR BUTTIGIEG TO PIN TWO NEW ASSISTANT FUZE CHIEFS <br /> South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg will pin badges on Todd Skwarcan,new Assistant <br /> Chief of Services and Andrew Myer,new Assistant Chief of EMS on Wednesday, <br /> February 15 at 9:15 a.m. The Badge Pinning Ceremony will take place in the Board of <br /> Public Safety conference room on the 13t' floor of the County-City Building, 227 W. <br /> Jefferson Blvd. in South Bend. <br /> "I am confident in their abilities to carry out the responsibilities of their new roles as <br /> Assistant Chiefs and I congratulate the two of them on their new positions,"Buttigieg <br /> said. <br /> Skwarcan joined the Fire Department in March of 1994 and became a paramedic in 1997. <br /> Skwarcan holds a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University in Business Management <br /> and Administration,with a concentration in Finance. As Union Steward and Vice <br /> President,he gained experience in negotiating contracts and working with the South <br /> Bend Fire Department budget.He has knowledge of state and national labor law and <br /> worked closely with the Fire Administration. <br /> Myer became a firefighter in October 1995 and graduated paramedic school in 1997. <br /> From his years with the department,Myer developed a history of building relationships <br /> with the St. Joseph County Medical Directors,and other hospital staff. He also has <br /> experience with staff at Notre Dame as well as experience as an instructor for EMS <br /> certification education. Myer currently serves as EMS Captain. <br /> "I chose both of these individuals because they are well respected members of the Fire <br /> Department and both bring a tremendous amount of experience to the jobs.
