2007 Annual Report
PARC Committee
of the South Bend Common Council
Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts & Entertainment
Date: December 12, 2007
To: The South Bend Common Council
The Office of the City Clerk
From: 4th District Council Member Ann Puzzello, Chairperson
PARC Committee
The members of the Committee in 2007 are Derek Dieter, vice-chair, Ervin Kuspa, Al
"Buddy" Kirsits, and citizen members Mark Tulchinsky and Ralph Lamkin.
The Parc Committee met 4 times during the year. We investigated the problems with
certification at the Potawatami Zoo and brought the problem to the attention of the
public. The mayor found $1.4 million dollars to address some serious conditions at the
zoo.
The Parc Committee is in the process of working with Ralph Lamkin to bring sculpture
pieces outdoors for the enjoyment of our citizens. He is developing a program which
would designate appropriate places for the sculpture and develop a rotating schedule for
the local art.
The Committee and the Council are working with the Botanical Society of South Bend to
bring the Conservatory and Greenhouses at Potawatami Park back to their former healthy
and beautiful state. A large improvement has already been accomplished.
The Kroc Center will be located in the Alonzo Watson Park on the City's near west side.
The Council will be asked to give land in the park to the Salvation Army to house the
facility as soon as the matching funds are raised. The Committee has been keeping up on
the progress of this effort and the plans for the Center.
In spite of having only 4 meetings this year, the Committee has been very busy this year.
Since all these projects are ongoing, I expect that this exciting activity will continue in
2008.
Re tfully s miffed,
zello, cha
Parc Committee
Filed I~ Ct~~1~'S ~l$ice
DEC 1 2 ~') J7
~o~r, e~oc~cE
cmr c~.~~r, sc. a~t~n, iH _
