Qualls made a report on the conditions at the crossing at 30�h ; Street and the Grand Trunl� Tracks and mentioned that further information tivould be forthcoming from the railroad. The Board, upnn I��r. Qualls recommendation, approved the installation of a street light at the intersection of 'uJestern Avenue and Bendix Drive and also one on Holland Street. The meeting tiT�as called to consider further. the case of L�o NTal�o�vski, suspended Police afficer. The Board considerad the facts of the case as reported to i� by other officers on duty and by the Chief of Police. Gave consideration to Officer T�lakot°TSki 's waiver of a formal statement of char�es and vlaiver of notice of hearing and �ave consideration of �fficer T�Za��otiTSki's statements of �1hat had occurred as made orally by Officer Ts7al�owski to the Board, as indicated in the minutes of the �3oard for Jul�r 31, 1944. Said statement as made by �fficer TvIakov�ski included the admission that he had, tivhile on duty, taken tvro drinks of whiskey and t��o, drinks of beer furnished to him by the o�vner of a tavern �ocated in the city of South Bend, and that he had then talked by radio to the desk Sergeant at Yolice Headq��arters and had been called in. to �Y�.e headquarters thereafter. The Board also considered �fficer T�.�:�oiJSkis previpus record, ancl after a full and complete discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded, i� was unanimously agreed that Officer TvIako�rs��i be dismissed from the Department for d.rinking alcoholic beverages Jahile on duty, for conduct unbecoming an Officer, and conduct contrary to the best interests of the Police Department.
