Let's do a resolution for that next meeting.
Councilmember Regina Williams-Preston stated, A young woman came tonight and had to leave
with her young children. I will make copies of her concerns and get them to all of you. She
currently lives in Beacon Heights and her living conditions are absolutely deplorable. I will
forward that information along.
Councilmember Jo M. Broden stated, The contract with Solid Waste Management is coming up
for a vote. If anyone wants information, reach out to me.
Councilmember Oliver Davis stated, TRANSPO is searching for a new General Manager. I will
invite you to meetings on that.
PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR
Sue Kesim, 4022 Kennedy Drive, South Bend, IN, stated, I spoke with the Chief and I made a
suggestion that they look into getting a grant for seniors to get home alarms that live in high crime
areas. Maybe they could get a company like SimplySafe to donate units. The Fire Department
could put them in. I think REAL Services could determine who is in need because they know those
seniors living on a fixed income. I think it would give some peace of mind. I'm suggesting that as
a project and I know the Chief is extremely busy but I did ask him to reach out to REAL Services
and partner with them. As you know,I'm always looking out for my seniors and this is something
I thought about. They have lived in those homes for decades and now they are afraid to go outside
and go to sleep at night. How can we make that better for them? If you have any resources, by all
means put it out there. I think we need to help our seniors sleep better at night. Just wanted to put
that out there.
Samuel Brown, 222 East Navarre Street, South Bend, IN, stated, I wanted to talk about my drug
house on 229 Sadie Street. The man is out doing his thing. I tried to call and find the status on him.
The bottom line is I'm going to try a new approach. I tried calling the owner of the house he said
he can't do nothing to help me. I'm going to talk to the drug dealer. Hopefully we have a good
dialogue. He has young lady who is pregnant up in that house. I'm going to tell him what I want,
man to man. I've been fighting this for seven(7) or eight(8) years. I'm not afraid. I could get this
taken of if I wanted to but that is not the right thing to do. That is the old Samuel Brown and I've
changed my life around. So I'm going to go to this drug dealer and have some dialogue with him.
All I want him to do is to quit selling drugs out of that house. I want to ask him what I need to do
33
